How the route follows the south

The route follows the old road south.

Seven days is what the old caravan road needs if the kasbahs are the point rather than the backdrop. The route runs one way down the south side of the Atlas — Aït Ben Haddou, Skoura, the Valley of Roses, Todra, Nkob, the Draa — so you unpack somewhere different most nights and drive a moderate amount most days rather than a punishing amount on a few. The trade is the two ends: day one over the mountains, and day seven back across them in about four and a half hours. If the driving matters more to you than the architecture, the four-day Chigaga route reaches the desert faster and asks less of you in between.

Highlights

Included & excluded
