4-day Marrakech to Erg Chigaga tour
Across the High Atlas and Draa Valley, with one night at Erg Chigaga. Return through Lake Iriki and Foum Zguid.
The itinerary
Your route, day by day
DAY 1Marrakech to Ouarzazate area
Leave Marrakech with a private driver and climb into the High Atlas. Continue to the fortified ksar of Aït Ben Haddou. Travel onward toward Ouarzazate and settle on the southern side of the Atlas, ready for the Draa Valley the next morning.
DAY 2Ouarzazate area to M’hamid El Ghizlane
Turn southeast toward Agdz and enter the Draa Valley, where date palms, cultivated plots and earthen villages follow the river corridor toward the Sahara. Pause along the valley for lunch and a closer look at oasis life. Continue through Zagora and Tamgroute country to M’hamid El Ghizlane, the final oasis settlement before the open desert and the starting point for Chigaga expeditions.
DAY 3M’hamid to Erg Chigaga
Begin in M’hamid with time to prepare a small overnight bag and confirm the desert conditions. Leave the paved road in a suitable 4×4 with an experienced local driver. Reach the Erg Chigaga dune area and continue to the selected camp.
DAY 4Erg Chigaga to Marrakech
Rise for the desert morning if you wish, have breakfast and leave camp by 4×4. Reach Foum Zguid and rejoin the paved road. Travel north toward Ouarzazate and cross the High Atlas back to Marrakech.

Can the final return be shortened?
Not without changing the route, but it can be divided with an extra overnight.
Can a normal car reach the camp?
No. Suitable 4×4 transport is required beyond M’hamid.
Is the camel ride included?
Only when its location and approximate duration are listed in the confirmed proposal.
